The date on the plaque of the statue is also wrong (Harvard was founded in 1636, not 1638), and John Harvard isn’t actually the founder of Harvard University, just its first benefactor. It’s also a running joke that visitors rub his (now golden) foot for good luck and a hope of admission because it’s also a bucket list item for admitted students to pee on the statue in the dark of night (often in the thrill of a party)."
