A Bachelor of Science/Doctor of Medicine (BS/MD) program allows seniors in high school to apply to college and medical school at the same time. There are about 80 of these programs throughout the United States and they last from six to eight years, depending on the program. As you might expect, these are some of the most competitive programs in the country, with limited spots open each year and acceptance rates below 10%. While they're very competitive, they're a great option for students who want to make an early commitment to becoming a doctor. You may also see these programs referred to as direct admit programs, so don't overlook that in your college research.
