Challenge Yourself. Inspire Others. Impact Our World.®
At Rockhurst University, we help you become who you want to be, not just what. We’re proud to be Kansas City’s Jesuit university for over 100 years, and we're in the city for good in every sense of the phrase. Whether you're new to Rockhurst or have been a loyal Hawk for decades, we welcome you with open arms. Here are a few things we want you to know about RU.
Our Catholic, Jesuit heritage
We’re proud of the company we keep as one of 27 Jesuit colleges in the US, alongside universities such as Georgetown University, Xavier University, and Gonzaga University. About 50% of students are Catholic, and we offer activities for all denominations. Our Jesuit education is prestigious and prepares our graduates to lead, shape, and change the world around them. We want you to love your future career but, more importantly, love your future life.
The Liberal Arts tradition
The University's curriculum is based on the seven classical liberal arts modes of inquiry: artistic, historical, literary, philosophical, theological, scientific relational, and scientific causal. But what does that really mean? It means we’ll stimulate all parts of your brain. With our average class sizes of 25 and a 14:1 student-faculty ratio, you won’t find any thousand-seat lecture halls here. Rockhurst offers more than 70 bachelor's and graduate degrees with personalized academic attention. You’ll learn to view the world differently here.
Our campus
Rockhurst's quiet campus is nestled just blocks from Kansas City’s famed Country Club Plaza and minutes from downtown. The campus quad is accented with large oak trees and surrounded by rustic stone buildings. In fall 2019, we opened a brand-new health and wellness center, the Magis Activity Center (MAC). Other recent campus improvements include the 2022 renovation of the first building to exist on campus, Sedgwick Hall, into a new state-of-the-art facility for nursing and health sciences.
Athletics
The Rockhurst University Hawks are part of the NCAA Division II. Rockhurst has men’s teams in baseball, basketball, golf, lacrosse, soccer, and tennis; and women's teams in basketball, cross country, golf, lacrosse, soccer, softball, tennis, and volleyball.
