STEM with a Christian foundation
The College of Science and Engineering, informally known across HCU’s campus as COSE, offers a robust curriculum across several disciplines. COSE strives to be the best in the world at integrating fundamental principles of science, engineering, and mathematics with historic Christian values and empowering its students with the tools and skills they need to serve both God and mankind. The College also provides full tuition to qualifying undergraduate and transfer students pursuing degrees in Engineering, Computing, and Math through the Grace Hopper Scholarship.

A plethora of STEM course offerings
COSE’s academic offerings range from Biology, Chemistry, and Mathematics to Electrical Engineering, Cyber Engineering, and Computer Science. Career opportunities for students completing these programs often outpace other professional fields. Our graduates are finding opportunities to have a major influence in a dynamic variety of professions—from medical technicians and researchers to teachers, engineers, and business leaders—both locally and abroad.

With the only Bachelor of Science degrees in engineering-based cyber programs in the Houston metro area, the College of Science and Engineering sets itself apart from other universities. Students encounter project-based learning opportunities in classes and with our local industry partners through tailored research and internship opportunities.

Faculty and resources for success
COSE faculty members are deeply committed to undergraduate teaching and research. One-on-one interactions between faculty and students are the norm in this College, and research opportunities with faculty are available to undergraduates. Students are also encouraged to participate in summer internships and research programs at other universities and research institutions.

Christian principles and foundation
The Christian mission of the COSE is important to the faculty, administration, and students. It's also important to the health care industry, allied health professions, information security, and other executives who need ethical, consistent, and principled professionals.

Curricular threads
Curricular threads in engineering and computer science programs include Cloud Computing (storage, access, security), Cybersecurity, Mobility (wireless networks, mobile devices, Internet of Things), Data Analytics (Big Data, Machine Learning), and Project Management.

Professional experience office
In conjunction with Title V (2019–2024), the College offers specialized advising for students planning to continue their education in medical, dental, optometry, pharmacy, physician assistant, physician assistant, and other grad schools. Our mentoring is open to all students interested in medical or health professions careers. Students also have access to resources such as membership in appropriate pre-professional organizations and trips to pre-professional schools. Health professions workshops and professional development seminars are also offered by the Professional Experience Office.

Industry engagement
Many industrial partners and individuals support the College by providing learning and internships, assisting with lab development, sponsoring projects, providing guest and adjunct instructors, employing interns and graduates, and advising on curriculum design and improvement.

Project-based learning
Engineering and computer science students learn to address cyber-related issues like security, the Internet of Things, embedded systems, software protection, and network defense from the beginning of their first year. The first-year curriculum utilizes a versatile hardware platform (mobile electronics and computing kit) to provide students with hands-on projects in an immersive learning environment.
