Welcome to your leading edge at UMR

The University of Minnesota Rochester offers a Health Sciences education unlike any other. Our campus in thriving Rochester, Minnesota, is fueled by unrelenting curiosity and a profound desire to make the world healthier by solving the grand health challenges of the 21st century. And after leaving campus, UMR graduates go on to contribute great things to the diversification of the health care workforce—a development expected to enhance innovation and public health outcomes.

UMR Baccalaureate Health Science Degrees

Our Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences (BSHS) is a foundational undergraduate degree that allows students to pursue a wide range of careers in the health sciences.  UMR’s innovative BSHS and integrated curriculum provide students with a foundational undergraduate education to pursue a wide range of health careers and graduate programs, including the option of one of our Early Assurance or Accelerated Programs. These programs are offered in collaboration with the Mayo Clinic, the University of Minnesota, and other affiliates. In the first few years, students share a common curriculum, but the program is defined by the final year, in which students tailor their experience to individual career/academic goals through their Capstone experience.

The Bachelor of Science in Health Professions (BSHP) is an educational collaboration with the Mayo Clinic School of Health Sciences that enables students to become skilled health care professionals in radiography, sonography, echocardiography, and respiratory care. As part of the BSHP program, students gain unparalleled experiences through the Mayo Clinic—where each day, health professionals address the well-being and treatment needs of patients from around the world. The challenging, high-quality curriculum progressively builds student expertise through academic coursework offered at MCSHS coordinated with clinical rotations at Mayo Clinic to optimize the learning experience. All four programs prepare students to take a national certification exam, which enables students to apply for licensure (if necessary) in all US states. Most of the programs have an upper-division curriculum that is two years in length and requires a summer session between years three and four. The Radiography program's advanced curriculum is a year and a half long as it requires two summer sessions, one between years two and three, and again between years three and four.
