Connect with Your Creativity at NYU

The arts are not just an area of study at NYU, they’re a way of life, and the University is ranked among the best in the world for its arts programs. As an NYU student of the visual arts, you learn how to think creatively and critically as you acquire the skills that will help you succeed in any number of fields.

Academics
At NYU, students live amid a culture of creativity, and they can explore majors, minors, and concentrations including Studio Art and Digital Art and Design at the Steinhardt School of Culture, Education, and Human Development; Game Design, Interactive Media Arts, and Photography and Imaging at Tisch School of the Arts; and an individualized study in visual arts or design and media at the Gallatin School of Individualized Study. All the while, you will be taught by professionals who come straight to the classroom from the gallery, the studio, and the digital lab.

Studio art practice and the study of art throughout history come together in a two-track program at NYU Abu Dhabi, where Art and Art History majors acquire the skills that prepare them to be painters, digital artists, sculptors, architects, museum curators, video game designers, photographers, or urban preservationists.

Interactive Media Arts majors at NYU Shanghai make discoveries that push the boundaries of visual expression. They explore subjects like rapid prototyping, animation, digital media, and physical computing to examine how humans interact with these evolving forms of media.

Resources
World-renowned fine artists and art scholars, hundreds of museums and galleries, landmark architecture: all of this is available to you as a student in one of NYU’s art and design programs. Whether you study at NYU’s campus in New York City or at one of its global locations in dynamic cities around the world, you will learn from and intern with professionals in your field and have opportunities to exhibit your work.
